Here is one of the biggest announcements we make all school year: The 2026 Hueschen Scholarship recipients are
-Madison Scaddan, daughter of Paul and Celine Scaddan of Pigeon
-Ava Gardy, daughter of Eric and Jennifer Gardy of Pigeon
-Sarah Steinman, daughter of James and Tricia Steinman of Elkton
As Hueschen recipients, these three young ladies received a full four-year scholarship to Michigan State University. This is a science scholarship, so Ava, Madison, and Sarah will all be studying science at MSU. Ava will study human biology and enter the nursing field, eventually becoming a nurse-midwife. Madison will study human biology at Lyman Briggs College. She then plans to enter the medical field to become a surgeon. Sarah will study human biology at the Lyman Briggs College, and she plans to become a family physician through the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine.
A huge congratulations to all three! This is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication. They are pictured here with Superintendent Jill VerBurg.

On Friday night before the Coming Home basketball game, two fundraisers will be happening - one for the Laker Sophomore class and one for Senior Strategies. The sophomores are hosting a pulled pork sandwich fundraiser this Friday, Feb. 20, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Get a sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert, and a beverage for $7. Students can eat for $5 and toddlers eat for free. Takeout is available. If you're extra hungry, get an extra sandwich for $2. The Senior Strategies class is offering face painting, hair tinsel, and more from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Select between five different services or get all for $5.

Mark your calendars - and prepare some sweet treats! The Laker Theatre Company is performing the play "The Outsiders" March 20-22, and those involved in the play are looking to make the performances even more impactful for students.
To support the theater program and fund a dedicated student scholarship, the Theatre Company will host a bake sale and concession stand before, after, and during intermission at each performance. Every treat and drink sold helps provide direct financial support to a deserving student in the arts.
To help, the Theatre Company is asking for donations of baked goods, pre-packaged snacks, and beverages to stock a table. Whether you're a master baker or a pro at picking out the best store-bought treats, your contribution makes a massive difference!
Please click the link below to let the Theatre Company know what you can contribute. Specific items are listed to ensure a great variety for those who attend the plays.
Performances will be at 6 p.m. March 20 and 21 and 2 p.m. March 22.
Please share this post with anyone who may want to donate baked goods and/or beverages to support the scholarship!
