Congratulations to Laker Superintendent Jill VerBurg and Laker Elementary special education teacher Shannon Popham. They each received a Huron County Community Foundation grant. The foundation awarded more than $38,000 in grants to 26 local projects at its Annual Celebration on September 10 at the Huron Youth Center in Elkton. HCCF's grantmaking committee recommended the grants after reviewing dozens of applications. Mrs. VerBurg's grant was for $1,500 and will help establish a Laker Mobile Storefront, a student-designed, student-fabricated, and student-operated retail kiosk. Ms. Popham's grant was for $826.76 and will cover the cost of sensory tools, equipment, and calming supports for elementary students. Both are pictured here with HCCF Board Chairman Kevin Soper.
